Waterfalls pouring off the misty cliffs of a Meghalaya gorge
Our story

A daughter of these hills, and a promise to them.

Eden began with Iadashisha Umwi, Iada to everyone who knows her, a daughter of the green and misty hills of Meghalaya. She grew up watching this land give generously, and watching the farmers who work it ask for very little in return. Eden is her answer to both: bring the purest of what these hills grow to the world, and make sure the people who grow it are honoured for it.

We work directly with local farmers, so every pack is authentically sourced from its one true origin. The crops are cultivated and harvested the traditional way, in small lots, without shortcuts. Sourcing straight from the origin lets us stand behind the quality of every pack, and it means a fair income reaches the hands that actually grew it.

These pages carry her promise in a sentence: nothing leaves the hills with our name on it unless she would serve it at her own table.

What we make no claim to

You will not find health promises on this site. Turmeric has held its place in Indian kitchens for centuries, and that place speaks for itself. We only claim what a laboratory can verify: where it grew, and what is in it. Every batch is tested, and the report ships with the pack.

Where we begin, and where we are going

We begin with Lakadong turmeric from the Jaintia Hills, with a curcumin content of 7% to 12%, verified batch by batch. The hills hold more: ginger from Mizoram in two native varieties, Thingpui and Thinglaidum; black pepper, sun ripened in the highlands; bay leaf, wild harvested and dried the slow way. As Eden grows, they will join the shelf.
